Pakistani security personnel attacked near 'Osama town'

Nepal National (IANS) Wednesday 22nd February, 2012

Two security personnel were shot dead by gunmen Wednesday night while on patrol in Pakistan's Abbottabad district, famous for being the hideout of slain Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

A passer-by was also killed in the attack, Xinhua reported citing Geo News Urdu.P

Police said the attack took place when two security personnel patrolling on a motorbike were ambushed by the gunmen in Mir Alam town of Abbottabad district, 60 km north of Islamabad.

The gunmen fled the scene after opening fire on the security personnel, police said.

A search has been launched to hunt down the attackers.

Abbottabad, a mountainous town described by locals as a backyard garden of Islamabad, became known to the world when US special forces killed bin Laden in a raid at his compound in May 2011.
