CEBU CITY, Nov. 16 (PIA) -- Cebu hosted the second leg of the 30th SEA Games Torch Run that was witnessed by more than 6,000 local runners at the Cebu South Coastal Road on Nov. 16, 2019.
This is part of the pre-activities for the country's hosting of the 30th SouthEast Asian Games which will officially open on Nov. 30, 2019 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
The five-kilometer torch run was led by 12 torch bearers which include Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Sec. Michael Dino and Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella as the officials who lit up the the games' cauldron prior to the run.
Joining them were athletes who will participate in the SEA Games and who have brought pride to the country such as Cebu's triathlete Kim Remolino who finished two SEA Games qualifiers, downhill skateboarder Tomas Romualdez, karateka Sarah Pangilinan, and 2017 SEA Games Bronze Medalist Karateka James Delos Santos.
"With this, we celebrate what it means to pass on good spirit great ideas and the best of intentions. We want to honor what it means hand in hand. We want to champion the values of perseverance and fortitude," said Philippine South East Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) Chief Operating Officer Ramon Suzara as he hopes to show the world what the 30th SEA Games' mantra "We Win As One" means.
"We compete among Southeast Asian nations but we win as one in growth and development of the southeast asian nation," said Labella in his message.
The first symbolic torch run started in Davao City on Oct. 30, 2019 that marked the month before the opening ceremony.
After Cebu, PHISGOC will hold activities in Manila, Tagaytay before reaching their final destination in New Clark City. (fan/PIA7)
