TOKYO, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended essentially flat Tuesday as losses from earlier concerns over spikes in COVID-19 cases were later countered by optimism for domestic earnings as the season swings into gear.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 8.54 points, or 0.04 percent, from Monday to close the day at 23,485.80.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 1.45 points, or 0.09 percent, to finish at 1,617.53.
Air transportation and mining issues led notable decliners, while precision instrument, and information and communication issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
