DHAKA, Bangladesh - To minimize the spread of coronavirus infections, the government has closed all schools and universities across the country for two weeks.
The Cabinet Division issued a notice on Friday, ordering the shutdown until February 6.
The choice to close universities during the pandemic has been left up to administrators of institutions.
The coronavirus infection has become widespread, prompting the government to make the decision, according to Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Friday.
The audience for social, political, and religious events cannot exceed 100 individuals. Participants in the gatherings will also be required to provide immunization certificates or COVID-negative certificates (tests must be done within 24 hours).
Employees of the government and private companies must get vaccinated and display their certificates at work.
Masks will be required in public venues such as mosques, markets, bus stops, rail stations, and launch jetties.
The local government and law enforcement agencies have been directed to watch the situation.
On Thursday, Bangladesh reported 10,888 virus cases in a day, the highest since August 10.
Despite the government implementing strict limitations, many did not adhere to them, allowing the infection to spread further, according to Maleque.
