DHAKA, Bangladesh - A senior Bangladeshi minister has floated a set of proposals that he believes will accelerate the implementation of government projects in Bangladesh if they are implemented.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has also requested assistance from South Korea, which is regarded as one of the best in the world in this regard.
"We never see the end of a project we start in Bangladesh. I recall a project that took ten years to complete despite being supposed to be completed in two years.
All of our projects are being delayed, costing us money," Momen said at a seminar titled "50 Years of Korea-Bangladesh Relationship" at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
The seminar was attended by the South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh, Lee Jang-Keun.
"Globally, South Korea is ranked as the number one country in 'contract completion,'" Momen said.
Bangladesh ranks 168th in the World Bank's Doing Business 2020 study, while South Korea ranks fifth.
The foreign minister stated, seeking assistance from Seoul, "We only advanced eight ranks in the ease of doing business index; we need to do much better. I believe our South Korean counterparts will assist us in this regard."
