Agartala (Tripura) [India], July 16 (ANI): Tipra Motha Party Chief, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma, has raised concerns over Bangladeshi nationals allegedly buying tribal land in the north eastern state of Tripura, claiming that the state is losing 'land inch by inch.'
The Tipra Motha party is currently in alliance with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the state, led by Chief Minister Manik Saha.
While raising the issue of the alleged land sale, Pradyot Bikram hit out at both the Congress and the BJP, accusing certain people of doing politics for 'short-term gains,' while the state is losing land to others.
'I have just got documents today to prove a Bangladeshi national has purchased a land in the tribal areas of Tripura and the property was mutated in his name. I am aware that when I raise these issues I am attacked by few of my friends from congress and also certain individuals who are today in BJP for personal gains. Should I stay silent and see our state lose land inch by inch while people do politics of short term gains?' he said.
Deb also mentioned that he will be releasing the document proving the land sale on July 16.
The Tipra Motha Party Chief's claims come amid his support for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls being carried out in Bihar, where the Election Commission said they found foreign nationals having Indian ID cards, including Aadhar card, domicile certificate and others.
He has also called for a similar revision of electoral rolls in Tripura, saying that the poll panel is complicit in 'wiping out our next generation of opportunities.'
'How does a illegal from Myanmar and Bangladesh enter Bihar when it has no boundaries with it ? We are the frontier states with less population and we have been raising this issue for years,' the party chief wrote in a post on X.
'ECI not taking action will wipe out our next generation of opportunities. A similar survey with our local indigenous officers should be conducted in our state and region as well,' he added. (ANI)
