Digha (West Bengal) [India], August 4 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari predicted on Sunday that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is going to 'lose' the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections and slammed her for allegedly supporting 'Bangladeshi Muslims' and 'infiltrators'.
His remarks came during a 'Hindu Yatra' organised to protest against the alleged atrocities against the Hindus in the State.
'Hindus are being tortured in Bengal. The Puri temple was insulted, and a cultural centre was declared a Hindu temple. That is why Hindus are very angry. The whole of Murshidabad, from Banasthala to every place where Hindus were subjected to atrocities, is on the streets today... That is why we are doing the Hindu Yatra today.'
He also responded to CM Mamata Banerjee's statement.
'... Whatever she is doing, she is doing it for Bangladeshi Muslims, infiltrators, and Rohingyas... She is going to lose the election, that is why she is doing all this...'
He has claimed that there are nearly one crore Rohingya immigrants, Bangladeshi Muslim voters, deceased voters, duplicate entries, and fake voters in the electoral rolls of the State.
The BJP leader urged the Election Commission to remove these names from the voters' list.
'There are nearly one crore Rohingya immigrants, Bangladeshi Muslim voters, deceased voters, duplicate entries, and fake voters in West Bengal. The Election Commission of India should remove these names to ensure the credibility of the voter list,' Adhikari told reporters here on Saturday.
On Sunday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the Delhi Police of describing Bengali as a 'Bangladeshi language', calling it 'scandalous', 'anti-national' and 'unconstitutional'.
Sharing a letter by Delhi Police on X, Banerjee said, 'See now how Delhi police under the direct control of the Ministry of Home, Government of India, is describing Bengali as 'Bangladeshi' language! Bengali, our mother tongue, the language of Rabindranath Tagore and Swami Vivekananda, the language in which our National Anthem and the National Song (the latter by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay) are written, the language in which crores of Indians speak and write, the language which is sanctified and recognised by the Constitution of India, is now described as a Bangladeshi language!!'
She called the act 'scandalous' and urged everyone to strongly protest against the government for disrespecting Bengali-speaking people.
'Scandalous, insulting, anti-national, unconstitutional!! This insults all Bengali-speaking people of India. They cannot use this kind of language, which degrades and debases us all. We urge immediate, strongest possible protests from all against the anti-Bengali Government of India, which is using such anti-Constitutional language to insult and humiliate the Bengali-speaking people of India,' the post reads.
