The aerospace joint venture with India says it is ready to provide weapons for the navy or the army
BrahMos Aerospace has said it is ready to take on orders for supersonic cruise missiles from either the Russian Navy or land forces.
A potential procurement by Moscow would see the system, partly produced in India, being supplied back to one of its original technology partners, underscoring New Delhi's growing role in advanced defense manufacturing.
The BrahMos comes in land, air, and sea variants and India has already integrated it into its ground, air, and naval forces.
Such an order by Russia would also boost New Delhi's push for domestic defense manufacturing under the 'Make-in-India' initiative.
Named after the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers, the BrahMos is among the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in the world. It was used to deadly effect by India last year in its short military clash with Pakistan.
"We are ready to fulfill the order if there is an appeal from the Russian side. Either it will be missiles for the Navy, or for ground forces," BrahMos Managing Director Alexander Maksichev told TASS on the sidelines of the International Naval Salon 'Fleet-2026'.
"We have sufficient capacities, and we understand what the Russian side wants," Maksichev said.
The missile was jointly developed by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya rocket design bureau, which produces the Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles. In 1995, a joint venture, BrahMos Aerospace, was established to produce the missile.
Originally capped at a range of 180 miles, the weapon has since been upgraded for greater reach.
The Philippines was the first foreign customer of the missiles, signing a $375 million contract in 2022. The first batch of BrahMos missiles was delivered in April 2024 and the second in April 2025.
Manila will get three batteries of the system with a 180-mile range. The agreement also provides for logistics support and training for operators.
Earlier this month, India confirmed it had made a deal withVietnamto supply the missiles.
A top Indian defense official said at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore that talks withIndonesiaare also in the final stage.
The next phase of the BrahMos project could involve the joint development of a missile system based on Russia's Zircon hypersonic missile.
BrahMos Aerospace posted arecord revenuein fiscal year 2025-26, the DRDO has said.
